Can you guess what one of my bucket list items is?
I will give you a hint. It involves dancing through a sea of green, filled with Guinness and listening to music I can’t understand. That’s right, I am talking about celebrating St Patrick’s Day in Ireland.
Here is where we wish we were spending St Patrick’s Day this year
Dublin
With half of the population in Ireland travelling to Dublin for St Patrick’s Day, you know it is the place to be if you dig day drinking and want to dance in a sea of people dressed in green.
Although I am not sure they will let me back into Temple Bar after my last solo trip to Dublin & a very boozy bar crawl, it really is the place to head if you want an electric atmosphere, good Guiness and crowd camaraderie.
Cork
While in Dublin you might see the town turn green, in Cork you can watch it turn every colour of the rainbow with the Patricks Hill Ball Run, when 12,000 coloured balls are released at the top of a hill leading to the city centre to raise money for the installation of defibrillators.
They also host a huge family-friendly parade and festival with over three thousand entertainers, performances and special guests.
Galway
Galway is said to be one of the countries most ‘Irish’ cities, so this is where to head if you want to avoid the touristy crowds and celebrate a more authentic St Patrick’s Day. This year Galway are celebrating the theme diversity, so expect to see an exciting exhibition of cultural and community displays in their massive St Patrick’s Day parade. Our suggestion is to get to Eyre square early to make sure you witness the famous fountain in the square turn bright green & have a spot for the end of the parade!
We here at Viva Travel can help you plan a festive trip that you will remember for a lifetime. Let’s drink to that!
