Planning a wedding in the “new normal” – trends for 2021 and onwards
2020 has not been the easiest year for weddings, or any event to be honest. The c-word has really changed the way we think about weddings particularly.
The restrictions imposed by COVID such as having reduced numbers has made us think long and hard about who we want there, and what is important to us. But what are they going to be like moving forward in to 2021 and beyond? Will those changes stay around?
So what are the top trends we see for 2021?
We are pretty sure that having a smaller, more perfectly formed guest list will be ongoing. It is a great excuse to avoid having to invite those relatives you never see but feel obligated to invite. Small weddings are far more manageable, more intimate and with those you really want there!
Destination weddings have for along time been a great way to avoid all the planning headaches and stress. The equivalent here are pop-up weddings and that is a great option for less stress. It is an easier start to your marriage for sure.
Weekday weddings are increasingly popular. With destination weddings, it was always the case that every day was a holiday, so having to find a Saturday that suited everyone wasn’t an issue, but now even weddings in Australia will be less focussed on weekends.
Along with the stress of planning, the additional headaches of choosing your bridal party disappear with the increasing trend of no bridesmaids or groomsmen. Just you and your loved one (oh and the celebrant/minister of course) is really all you need.
Smaller weddings, and lack of bridal parties also mean less flowers, so you can really choose what you want to look amazing in the photos. You can also stretch your budget further, have nicer food and drinks etc.
As part of the “no bridal party” trend, another popular choice is walking down the aisle on your own. For whatever reason, choosing to walk alone down the aisle is an option many choose now. Or choose someone you really appreciate, like your bestie, or your dog!
That extends also to what you wear. Big fluffy meringue dresses are being ditched in favour of beautiful boho lace and soft flowing dresses, far more in keeping with beach weddings.
Naturally we are biased. We know how much less stress a destination wedding can be, and how much more you get for your money too. So hit us up for advice on how to create the perfect wedding, especially once the borders open!
