What it is like to stay in the IceHotel in Sweden?

Disney’s ‘Frozen’ frosted our cinemas and warmed our hearts 7 years ago now, but have you ever wondered what it would be like to stay in Elsa’s ice castle for one night? Well here at Viva Travel, we went all the way to Sweden to experience just that.

The world famous ICE HOTEL is rebuilt entirely by ice taken from the nearby Torne River each year in the picturesque town of Jukkasjarvi. Stepping into the ICEHOTEL, with each suite expertly sculpted and engineered from scratch by world famous artists prior to peak season, it was apparent why it has been named the most unique art gallery in the world.

Touring through we were instantly transported into an intricate winter wonderland maze of glowing thousand-piece ice chandeliers, 2-metre tall art pieces and intricately carved furniture, all worthy of the Ice Queen Elsa herself.

Another way we kept warm was a trip to the world’s first permanent ice bar, where even the drinking glasses are made of freshly carved ice. The only catch? You have to drink it quickly before the strong but delicious alcohol melts the glass. Legend has it that one Australian had 24 drinks in a row, before the next freshly poured glass had the chance to melt like Olaf in summertime- an achievement in it’s own right.

To put the cherry on top of the iced vodka, ICEHOTEL offers a range of incredible activities including a sled dog ride around the nearby snow covered hills, a northern lights safari, river rafting and more.

We promise, despite the cold, this once in a lifetime trip to this frozen fantasy land will capture your heart and never ‘let it go’.
