Special tour combining favourite sites of Peru and Bolivia. In Peru you will follow the traces of Inca civilization and visit historical and natural jewels of the country – magical pictures in Nazca, the deepest canyon in the world, and fascinating Machu Picchu. Then you continue across the Titicaca Lake to Bolivia. You visit the highest capital, La Paz, and unforgettable salt flats and white deserts. The scenery will take your breath away!
Day 1 – Lima
Welcome at Lima. Meet and greet by the English speaking guide – Transfer to the hotel, short time off. Your adventure starts! Depending on the time of landing, you can relax in the hotel or go into the streets and explore the city.
Day 2 - Nasca Lines (B)
In the morning after breakfast you will go by bus to Nazca. The Nazca Lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert of Peru. They have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can look forward to a flight over the Nazca Lines. Hundreds are simple lines or geometric shapes; more than seventy are designs of animal, bird, fish or human figures. It is an amazing experience. You will spend the night in a hotel in Nazca today.
Day 3 – Journey to Arequipa (B)
Today awaits you a transfer. You will get on a comfortable bus to Arequipa. Here a guide will wait to pick you up and take you to a hotel. Arequipa is a beautiful city, full of history, made of white stone.
Day 4 – Colca Canyon (B)
Today after breakfast you will be picked up at the hotel to set out for a full-day trip to one of the deepest places on the planet. Colca Canyon reaches a depth of 3400 meters/11.155 feet at the lowest point. The winding road passes by volcanoes Misti, Chachani and Ampato. Their peaks are covered by snow. At the edge of the canyon you will be able to observe majestic condors and huge eagles. You will also pass typical small villages Torja, Chucura and Patapampa, to stop in one of them, called Chivay. Or you can also enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the La Calera thermal spa. Lodging in Araquipa. (This trip can be extended to 2 days)
Day 5 – Arequipa - Cusco (B)
Awaiting you is a transfer to Cusco. You will be taken to a hotel in the city centre. Cusco is located 3200m above sea level. A guided city tour is on the programme for the afternoon. Cusco has a marvellous historic square with colonial cathedrals, you will visit the Templo del Sol, which was the heart of the Inca empire. The tour includes visit to Inca ruins, let´s name Sacsayhuaman, Korincancha, Quenqo. In the evening you can taste local Peruvian cuisine in one of the restaurants.
Day 6 - Sacred Valley (B)
We set off for a day-trip to the Sacred Valley of the Incas straight after breakfast. Ancient ruins, gentle mountain slopes and scattered farming towns define the valley. We will take you in the afternoon to Pisac village, renowned for its markets, colourful handmade crafts and souvenirs. All the Cusco surroundings is scattered with Inca ruins. So finally the town and an Inca archaeological site of Ollantaytambo close to Urubamba river will be visited. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 7 - Machu Picchu (B)
You will get on the train to Machu Picchu early in the morning and start the slow 4-hour long zig-zag ride up the peak. The train takes you through wild and beautiful nature to the “Lost City”. The magical ruins of Machu Picchu were rightfully included among the New Seven Wonders of the World. You will be guided through the site. More active tourists may climb the Huayna Picchu with a superb view. At the close of the day you will move to Aquas Calientes, from where a train takes you back to Cusco. Option: extended stay and lodging at Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes).
Day 8 - Cusco (B)
This day is at leisure. You have plenty of time to buy souvenirs and explore more deeply the town itself or archaeological sites in the surroundings. After sunset there is usually a rich cultural programme on the Plaza de Armas square or you can go for a delicious dinner. Night in a hotel.
Day 9 - Cusco – Puno (B)
You will be taken in the morning to a bus station. A bus will take you straight to Puno. On the way you will pass typical Peruvian villages, Pucara, Racchi and Andahuaylillas. As you reach the town of Puno, a gateway to the Titicaca Lake, a guide will take you to a hotel for the night.
Day 10 – Floating islands of Uros and Taquile Island (B)
In the morning you board a boat which will take you for a Titicaca cruise during which you will visit the floating islands of Uros. These islands are man-made from the totora reeds and they are home of the Uros tribe, one which pre-dates the Incan civilization. You will have chance to hear their language, Aymara. Afterwards you will proceed to the Taquile Island which has preserved its old charm by limiting the amount of tourism exposure. It is a peaceful island, there are no roads or electricity, but there are plenty of hills and archaeological ruins. The native Quechua-speaking people are known for their fine hand-woven textiles and clothing, colourful belts chumpis, caps chullos and sandals ojotas. Return by boat to Puno for the night. (The stay at the lake can be extended by 1 day, incl. overnight at a local family of natives)
Day 11 – Puno – Copacabana – Sun Island (B)
A bus and boat ride to Copacabana, town lying on the Bolivian side of the lake. An English speaking guide will pick you up at the bus station and accompany you to the hotel. In the afternoon you head on a boat towards the Sun Island, the cradle of the Inca Empire. In this legendary island, you are going to visit the Pilkokaina Inca Palace, you can go on foot or by boat to the garden, stairs and the fountain of the Inca. Ascending to the town of Yumani, you have a magnificent view of the lake, with the base view of Nevado of Illampu and Cordillera Real de los Andes. At night you can taste the delicious trout from Lake Titicaca. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 12 – Copacabana – La Paz (B)
After breakfast, we are going to explore the city. Copacabana is a holy city on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Once sacred to the Incas, Copacabana is now home to the revered statue of La Virgen de la Candelaria, the patron saint of Bolivia. You will stop at a craft-market, good opportunity to buy some souvenirs. You will leave Copacabana in the afternoon, get on a bus to La Paz to accommodate here in a hotel.
Day 13 - Transfer La Paz – Uyuni (B)
Morning transfer to the bus station where the guide will explain how to get to Uyuni. 10.30am bus from La Paz to Oruro, arrive at 1.30pm. Later take a 3.30pm train connection from Oruro to Uyuni, arrive at 10.30pm. Transfer from the train station to the hotel. Overnight in Uyuni. (This part is without a guide).
Day 14 - Uyuni Salt flats – San Juan (B, L, D)
Today is a visit to the salt extracting village of Colchani, then continue the trip to the Fish Island (Inkawasi), a piece of rock land in the middle of a white ocean, on which bloom hundreds of giant cactus, the only vegetation able to grow within thousands of square miles. Accommodation in a basic lodge with sharing room and bathroom in San Juan or nearby.
Day 15 – San Juan – Color Lagoons (B, L, D)
Panoramic view of Lípez, flora and fauna. Visit the colour lagoons until reach the National Reserve of Andean fauna Eduardo Avaroa, with its most important natural attractions like Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon) where you should see flamingos. This scenery is unbelievable, you will not be able to stop taking pictures. You also stop at Siloli desert - famous for the tree like rock formations. Accommodation is arranged in a basic lodge with sharing room and bathroom.
Day 16 – Huallajarar – La Paz (B, L)
Sol de Mañana, our highlight of the day, is a geothermal field. This area is characterized by intense volcanic activity and the sulphur springs field, not geysers as you may have read, is full of mud lakes and steam pools with boiling mud. Lunch is included today too. You take a night bus back to La Paz.
Day 17 – La Paz (-)
You arrive early in the morning and move to the hotel, where you can take a nap and relax. The day has no fixed programme but we recommend you visit interesting sights in the city or surrounding area. You can buy souvenirs in a market too as your stay slowly draws to an end.
Day 18 – La Paz – Lima (B)
Transfer to the airport. Flight from La Paz to Lima, Peru´s capital. The rest of the day is at leisure, you may explore the city on your own. Lodging in a hotel.
Day 19 – Lima – departure (B)
The adventure comes to its end. Transfer to the airport after breakfast for your flight back home.
