Tour Description

The amazing landscape of Peru, with breathtaking views, rich habitats and incredible wildlife, is also home to impressive cultural, historic and archaeological heritage. Peru is a magical spot with one of the richest biodiversities on Earth. 84 of the 104 life zones that exist on our planet, makes Peru a privileged destination for nature and adventure lovers.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Lima

Welcome at Lima. Meet and greet by the English speaking guide. Transfer to the hotel, short time off. Your adventure starts! Depending on the time of landing, you can relax in the hotel or go into the streets and explore the city.

Day 2 - Cusco (B)
In the morning you will be driven to the airport for a short domestic flight from Lima to Cusco (1.5 hrs). After landing you will be taken to a hotel in the city centre. Cusco is located 3200 meters above sea level. A guided city tour is on the programme for the afternoon. Cusco has a marvellous historic square with colonial cathedrals, you will visit the Templo del Sol, which was the heart of the Inca Empire. The tour includes visit to Inca ruins, called Sacsayhuaman, Korincancha, Quenqo. In the evening you can taste local Peruvian cuisine in one of the restaurants.

Day 3 - Sacred Valley (B)
We set off for a day-trip to the Sacred Valley of the Incas straight after breakfast. Ancient ruins, gentle mountain slopes and scattered farming towns define the valley. We will take you in the afternoon to Pisac village, renowned for its markets, colourful handmade crafts and souvenirs. All the Cusco surroundings is scattered with Inca ruins. Then finally the town and an Inca archaeological site of Ollantaytambo close to Urubamba river will be visited. Overnight in Cusco.

Day 4 - Machu Picchu (B)
You will get on the train to Machu Picchu early in the morning and start the slow 4-hour long zig-zag ride up the peak. The train takes you through wild and beautiful nature to the "Lost City". The magical ruins of Machu Picchu were rightfully included in the New Seven Wonders of the World. You will be guided through the site. Active tourists may climb the Huayna Picchu with a superb view. At the close of the day you will move to Aquas Calientes, from where a train takes you back to Cusco. Option: extended stay and lodging at Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes).

Day 5 - Cusco (B)
This day is at leisure. You have plenty of time to buy souvenirs and explore more deeply the town itself or archaeological sites in the surroundings. After sunset there is usually a rich cultural programme on the Plaza de Armas square or you can go for a delicious dinner. Night in a hotel.

Day 6 - Puerto Maldonado, the Amazon Jungle (B, L, D)
After breakfast transfer to the airport for a flight to the Amazon Jungle region. Then we will take you for a brief sightseeing tour in Puerto Maldonado and afterwards to a river port where we will get on our boat and begin the unforgettable journey through the Madre de Dios River. On the way, you could observe the alligators, turtles, herons and other animals. Arriving at the Ecoamazonia Lodge, you will enjoy lunch. In the afternoon we will visit Monkey Island, hosting different monkey species. Return to the lodge for dinner and night.

Day 7 - The Amazon Jungle (B, L, D)
After breakfast we will start an adventure thought the virgin jungle, we'll hike into the "Cocha Perdida" (swamp surrounded by lush rain forest), it constitutes an ecosystem that is considered as a refuge of a huge variety of animals like nutrias, caimans, turtles, sachavacas, multicolour feather birds, the majestic jaguar (Andean lion) and fish. Then we will arrive at the incredible Amazon observatory, built at the top of the biggest tree. From that location you may observe the magical jungle, and at the same time have a pleasant ride in a canoe around the lake. Then return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon a canoe ride though the river and a visit to a typical local family, then return and dinner.

Day 8 - The Amazon Jungle (B, L, D)
The day will start with a hike deep into the woods. During the journey we will observe the caimans cave then we will continue and arrive at the majestic Apu Victor Lake, beautiful crystalline waters, surrounded by huge swamps and giant trees. Later we will climb up our Amazon observatory, from where we will have a panoramic view of the lake. We will observe parrots, guacamayos, toucans, camungo, shanshos, herons, and some other animals like caimans, turtles and if we are lucky enough we could observe one of the most spectacular animals of the jungle the giant nutria. Return to the lodge and lunch follows. The afternoon is at leisure, evening dinner.

Day 9 - The Amazon Jungle (B, L, D)
Breakfast and then we will start another excursion across the magic jungle where we will sail though the Madre de Dios River to get to the beginning of a hiking trek to the rivers Gamita / Briolo. Born in the heart of the virgin jungle, these two rivers with their winding ways, they form huge sailing channels. We will paddle a canoe, closely observing animals like, turtles, caimans, butterflies and a great variety of insects. Fishing and bathing time will be allowed. Then we will arrive to the lodge, last dinner and overnight.

Day 10 - Departure (B)
The adventure draws to an end. We will take you after breakfast to the Puerto Maldonado airport for return flight to Lima.
